Beales reflects on his time at Bedlam with this drawing, saying: ‘In the day room of an admission ward in an old psychiatric hospital, morning coffee was served from a jug on the counter by a member of the domestic staff. The patients who were not well enough for therapy sat in armchairs, talking or resting. Occasionally a patient too disturbed for therapy was brought to the day room to socialise.
